A Collaborative Approach to Online Therapy In Ontario
At Social Team Work, counselling is a conversation you help shape. Your goals, preferences, and everyday circumstances all matter when deciding how to work together.
Our approaches include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which explores connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which can help you relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings. We also offer Behaviour Activations and Motivational Interviewing for clients wanting to reinforce positive habits, motivate themselves to change, or sustain their overall well-being.
Other methods include EMDR, IFS, and EFT for couples. We’ll discuss relevant options rather than expect you to arrive knowing which approach to choose.

Online Counselling FAQs
Is Online Counselling Similar To In-Person Therapy?
Yes. Online counselling involves meeting with a therapist through a video appointment or over the phone. You and your therapist talk about your concerns, explore patterns, and work towards goals you identify together, just like you would at an in-person therapy appointment.
How Can I Get Ready For My First Virtual Appointment?
Our therapists allow time during your first session to describe what brought you to counselling, ask questions, and begin discussing what you hope will change. You can share at a pace that feels manageable.
You’ll also want to prepare a device with a camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection, and a quiet place to talk privately. You’re welcome to use headphones. If privacy or technology is a concern, mention it when arranging your appointment. We can discuss the practical considerations before you begin.
Do I need to live in Sudbury for online counselling?
No. Our office is in Sudbury, but we provide virtual counselling across Ontario, including Ottawa and smaller communities throughout the province.
How do I choose a therapist?
You can meet our team online and contact us with your concerns and preferences. Ask about relevant experience, availability, and approach so you can consider whether the fit feels right.
Will my benefits cover online counselling?
Coverage varies. Ask your insurer whether your plan covers virtual counselling provided by a Registered Social Worker, along with any reimbursement limits or requirements. Confirm the session fee with us before booking.
Can I attend in person instead?
Yes. In-person appointments are available at our office in Sudbury. We’d be happy to meet with you online or in-person, depending on your preference.
What if I feel nervous about talking on video?
You can tell your therapist. It’s okay to need time to feel comfortable, ask how sessions work, or discuss whether another format might suit you better.
