Counselling services are covered under most extended health care benefits. Verify with your insurance provider that it covers counselling services. Also verify that it covers “Social Worker” or “Registered Social Worker.”
How many sessions will I need?
This is different for everyone. Some people need 3 or 4 sessions to discuss something specific, while others may be looking for long-term counselling to deal with more complex issues. The average is around 8 sessions.
What can I expect during
the first session?
The first session is an assessment. It is an opportunity for the counsellor to get to know you, to set goals and establish a therapeutic plan, or to determine if any referrals need to be made.All other sessions will be tailored to you.
